La Mesa AC Repair Experts
If you turn down your home’s thermostat and your AC doesn’t turn on, it’s obvious that it requires a repair. However, few problems will render your AC inoperable immediately. If the situation escalates to that point, there are likely some symptoms that you overlooked along the way.
One of the subtler signs of an ailing AC is a drop in energy efficiency. If your cooling bills suddenly increase with no apparent cause, you may need AC repair. Another typical early sign of AC trouble is a decrease in airflow from your home’s vents. That may indicate something as simple as a dirty evaporator coil, or it could be a result of a blower motor that’s nearing failure.
Look for the following signs that you need air conditioner repair.
- Unusually high indoor humidity
- Strange smells or sounds
- Short cycling
- Uneven cooling
- Water leaking from AC
One of the most serious signs of trouble with your AC is hissing or gurgling noises. Either may result from a refrigerant leak. If you hear either of those sounds, you should turn off your AC and schedule immediate repairs. A small refrigerant leak will harm your AC’s efficiency and cooling capacity.
As the problem worsens, however, it can lead to a frozen evaporator coil. That blocks airflow through your AC, which can damage its blower fan. Worse still, low refrigerant levels deprive your AC compressor of the lubricants it needs. Continuing to run your AC in that state may destroy the compressor.
